Riley Lawson has been recognized as the winner of the 2013 Fashion Forward Emerging Designer Award, presented by Dr. Roberta McKay and Mr. Elmer Brenner. The Award is an honorarium that recognizes business strategy, branding, design aesthetic, construction, fabrication, runway presentation, and cohesion. It was coveted by 18 emerging designers, but Lawson's attention to every detail, skillfully constructed garments, and cohesive design aesthetic earned her the recognition. Lawson is a personal image consultant, fashion stylist and designer. Her Fall/Winter 2013 collection is an experimentation with eco-dyed silk, synthetic leather, knitwear, denim, and black and grey fabrics, constructed into versatile and functional garments.

"I'm so honored to have been chosen by people in our creative industry that I admire. I had no idea it was coming my way and I'm not sure the shock has worn off just yet," said Lawson, the day after receiving the award. "I'm absolutely thrilled and more motivated than ever before. Huge thank you to everyone involved in Saskatchewan Fashion Week. Without the event, many of us wouldn't have the chance to showcase our passions and talents. So excited for the future."

Emerging designers were judged by three local fashion industry professionals and entrepreneurs: Lisa McEachern – Head Designer & Production Manager, Hillberg & Berk, Dean Renwick – Designer, Dean Renwick Design Studio, and Colter Wood – Owner, Coda Clothing & Shoes.

"Riley did a fantastic job in all the categories the designers were being evaluated," said Colter Wood, retail entrepreneur and juding panelist. "She has a very bright future with her designs and Saskatchewan should be proud to call her one of its own!" Wood was so impressed by Lawson's design talent and collection that he is currently exploring introducing the Riley Lawson design label into his store, Coda Clothing & Shoes.

Saskatchewan Fashion Week introduced the award in 2013 with the goal of creating an incentive that encourages and contributes to professional development for the province's emerging fashion designers. Lawson has the ability to use the honorarium to develop her business plan and marketing strategy, pursue professional development, and enhance her design portfolio.
